These 15 projects plot our course.
01 France: Foyer Cheshire Fontaine-Francaise Nr Dijon
the Home has 50 adult residents.It has daily visits from a physiotherapist and
a craft therapist directs the workshop where the residents paint, weave, do enamel
work, woodwork and pottery. The items made are sold to raise money for the Home.
02 Morocco: Dar el Hana Cheshire Home Tangier 43 children
& adolescents with physical disabilities. The school provides professional
training and the 'Club el Hana' basket ball team is affiliated to the Royal Sports
Federation for disabled people.
03 Morocco: Centre Cheshire Meknes. Aday centre where
young disabled children and their families can receive support and treatment.
04 Morocco: Centre Koutoubia Marrakech. Aday care community
based rehabilitation centre for children aged between 7 months to 12 years with
severe disabilities. Its goal is to integrate the children into family and society.
05 Spain: Llar "Joan Trias" Barcelona a residence
and occupational centre for adults with cerebral palsy and other severe physical
disabilities.
06 Sudan: Khartoum Cheshire Home Khartoum provides rehabilitation
for children with physical disabilities.There is an outpatient clinic where children
can receive physiotherapy and can be fitted with orthopaedic appliances made at
the Home's workshop.
07 Ethiopia: The Cheshire Home for Physically Handicapped
Children Menagesha 44 short stay children mainly disabled by polio who receive
physiotherapy, are fitted with orthopaedic appliances and undergo corrective surgery
where appropriate.A mobile workshop visits rural areas giving follow-up care.
08 Ethiopia: Jimma Cheshire Project. Jimma started in
1998 as a community based support programme for disabled children. A rehabilitation
centre is being constructed on the outskirts of Jimma which will have short term
accomodation.
09 Kenya: The Limuru Cheshire Home Limuru 30 young disabled
residents in this home. It has a workshop where handicrafts are produced. Two
of the residents are art students and some participate in sports for the disabled.
Farm produce is grown and cows produce milk and cheese for the residents.
10 Tanzania: Mlali Cheshire Home Kongwa a rehabilitation
centre for physically disabled children. It has an operating theatre and a dispensary.
Calipers are produced in an orthopaedic workshop and a farm has been developed
on the surrounding land.
11 Malawi: Lilongwe Cheshire Home Lilongwe The Home runs
an outreach rehabilitaion programme providing physiotherapy, occupational therapy
and special education for children with physical and learning disabilities.
12 Zambia: Cheshire Homes Society
of Zambia Lusaka run by the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Family providing nursing
care for up to 25 elderly people with physical disabilities who have no immediate
family to care for them.
13 Zambia: Cheshire Homes Society of Zambia Livingstone.
The Home runs three main clinics operating as outreach programmes which see a
total of 46 children with physical and learning disabilities. The aim is to treat
the children through physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy.
14 Zimbabwe: Cheshire Chiota Project Marondaro an outreach
programme covering 8 villages. The programme provides mobility aids, education
for the community, information on assistance from government departments. It also
encourages the inclusion of disabled children in local schools.
15 Cape Town: Eric Miles House Milnerton, Nr Cape Town
the Home has 46 adult residents with physical disabilities and has 38 single rooms,
5 flats and 6 units providing independent living for residents. Many residents
are in regular employment outside the Home.
